Smartrend was launched in 2004 by Kevin Smith, a Canadian entrepreneur with an eye for opportunity and a vision of success.
After a six-week tour of Chinese factories and discussions with his network of contacts, Smith was convinced that a company that combined global sourcing of OEM-specific components with logistics and supply solutions was just what North America's manufacturing industry needed.
Since then, the firm has specialized in international contract manufacturing and general product sourcing, utilizing quality-focused factories in low cost countries such as China, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam to produce products, components and complete assemblies.

Smartrend is headquartered in Winnipeg, Canada – at the heart of North America – to take advantage of a central time zone and the proximity of its logistics department to the continent's transportation hub. The company also operates an international office in Ningbo City, China.
